MikelyRik Interview By Scott McGlynn

Music and Performer MikelyRik is a global star from 100k hits on YouTube, Touring the world and with new music on the way.

I caught up with MikelyRik to get the lowdown…

mikelyrik-flaunt-by-stackzmedia-1

Scott: Tell me 3 facts about yourself that no-one else knows?

MikelyRik: Hmmm, only 3? OK… One: Before I started writing songs, and poetry, I used to draw and create entire comic book stories for my classmates throughout middle and high school…Two: I used to have a fear of dogs when I was a kid, due to a crazy experience in Jamaica. And Three: growing up in a Gospel heavy, Jamaican, Christian home, the very first non-gospel record I ever remember hearing was “ShooBeeDoo” by Madonna lol!

Scott: Love your song “Celebrate” tell us about it.

MikelyRik: Thank you, I’m glad you love it. It’s one of the only songs that I didn’t write on my current EP “Genre Theater” but when it was presented to me, I fell in love with it too. It was written by an amazing talented songwriter, Jaron Hitz, who has also written for many amazing artists.
I’ve gotten lots of Feedback about what the song means to various people via fan mail, Facebook, YouTube comments and such but the general unifying idea is that it’s important to feel celebratory at some point on a daily basis! I do believe that as long as you’re alive, there is always something to celebrate. The music video, which recently surpassed 100K views on YouTube (I’m so humbled by that!) has several examples including: a quirky guy being accepted by a cool crew for who he is, a beautiful lesbian couple getting engaged, a young lady graduate and overall positive vibes.. All being celebrated in the video.

Scott: You seen and worked all around the world, What’s been most memorable place and why?

MikelyRik: When I started doing music, I really just wanted to perform & share my passion and ideas with as many people as possible. I had no idea pursuing my dreams would take me to Hong Kong, Dubai, Bahrain and all of these amazing, beautiful, exotic locations. One of the most memorable experiences so far was recently in Atlanta Georgia, simply because lots of the fans and supporters out there are so avid and faithful, singing my songs along with me. I’ve been there several times and each time I go back, it’s like seeing old friends… That’s unbelievable to me and very humbling every single time.

Scott:  Other than music what other things do you enjoy doing?

MikelyRik: I’m almost always doing something music related. Rehearsing, writing, typing up plans, thoughts, ideas… And when I’m not, I like to try to spend as much time with my family and close friends as possible. I’m into all kinds of philosophical books, meditation, health & fitness, random genres of movies and comic book world related stuff… including collecting action figures. Boring right?

Scott: I’ve known you to perform a few times at Rockbottom club in Mumbai, Will we be seeing you back there soon?

MikelyRik: I’ve performed a a few different Rockbottom clubs, the one in Dubai was definitely memorable but so was the one in Abu Dhabi! I’m always open to heading back to venues I’ve already played. The familiarity of returning is so very captivating to me!

Scott: You love your fashion, Whats the most expensive thing you bought?

MikelyRik: Actually man, some of the most expensive pieces I’ve worn, were rented or for promotional use lol just keeping it real! I spend a lot on clothes, but not as much as one would think. I might treat myself to something ridiculously expensive once every few months, but I can’t remember the most expensive thing I bought, fashion-wise…

mikelyrik-2016-600x650

Scott: Which artists are you loving right now and has made it on your playlist?

MikelyRik: I listen to and am inspired by so many different genres so my playlist ranges from Kid Cudi to Madonna to Radiohead. From Lauryn Hill to Troye Sivan, from Tinie Tempah to Janelle Monae… I’m telling you man, very eclectic.

Scott: What has 2017 got in store for you?

MikelyRik: The fans have been so very supportive, I’m still in shock at my monthly listeners on Spotify. So 2017 already has some scheduled performances in locations that I’m super excited about as well as some new releases and projects that I’ve been working extremely hard on with some very cool and talented people who I know, many will be excited about! Just stay tuned to my website and my social media for updates!

Vangelis Polydorou Interview – Scott McGlynn

BBC The Voice 2016 Vangelis Polydorou amazing talented guy with a powerful voice, I met him in London to talk about Boy George, The Voice, LGBT, Boyfriends and things he can’t live without…

a9c9382c-c471-4e02-9c73-66114a0fa873

Scott – We seen you on The Voice this year, Your blind audition you sang  “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me”, Was it a reason you choose this song? Does it mean anything to you?

Vangelis; I was originally meant to sing Wings by Birdy for my Blind Audition but I didn’t think it was the right song. The team rang me up and agreed and said ‘We don’t get alot of voices like yours on The Voice and we want to create a different arrangement that will help to showcase your unique voice even more’  Do You Really Want To Hurt Me was just an idea at first, it wasent always going to be the song. I got sent a rough demo and worked on the vocals on the weekend and then I came together with the band and told them some of my own ideas for the track. The funny thing was it was so rushed and I didn’t think about it too much but it just worked. I felt like we had made something special and it was the perfect song for me to audition with. I couldn’t have asked for more.

Scott – What made you choose George as your mentor?

Vangelis; I like his honesty. If he doesn’t like something he’s telling you. He keeps you on your toes and although I still find him a little intimidating he has helped me a lot throughout the process. I won’t say he’s like a father figure because he’d hate that! Haha

Scott – Your done some awesome songs on the show, What was your favourite moment and why?

Vangelis; I loved Do you really want to hurt me of course but I also loved Here Comes The Rain Again. I nearly didn’t do it because I was scared of doing something upbeat. It showed a different side to me though and I was really fighting to stay in that week. I was thinking to myself I need to fight for this shit, and I did. Thankfully the public voted me through to the next round. I hated beautiful though. It was a rushed suggestion from one of the team and I didn’t like the arrangement but I did the best I could with what I was given. I did feel like I was being thrown under the bus that week and I knew I would go.

Scott –  Your a LGBT supporter, I brought out my
autobiographical story about being gay and bullied in school & workplaces, how was it for you?

Vangelis; Yes I’m heavily involved in the LGBT scene. I actually sang and closed the LGBT awards which was a great honour. When I was younger I always knew I was different. I was eally shy going to new places incase people would notice that I was different. I did get name called alot but my bullying stories were nothing compared to some people. I was lucky because I went to great schools they didn’t tolerate that. I just think it’s awful what people have to go through.

Scott – If you could say one thing to bullies what would it be?
Vangelis; Get a life and stop trying to ruin other peoples.

Scott – You been doing some gigs around the UK, Where will we be seeing you this summer?

Vangelis; Yes. I’m doing London, Oxford, Warwickshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Leicester Pride. I’m not just doing Pride though, i’ll include a list below.

Scott –  I love your new hair! What was the process like getting to sliver?

Vangelis; I had to get it bleached 3 times on the same day and then come back a few days later to get a permanent colour. I had scabs on my scalp from the bleach and then got bad dandruff. I know this is way too much info but I want to keep it real ha. It got better though, but my scalp felt a bit traumatised. It’s hard to maintain so as the permanent colour started to fade I used a semi permanent silver toner which you have to use weekly to keep it that way and my hair is starting to feel healthier again.

Scott –  Who were your role models growing up?

Vangelis; I loved Celine Dion! I always wanted to sing like her and hold the notes and she was just amazing and still is and Whitney and Mariah. I just loved that big diva sound.

Scott –  Its news going around about the Spice Girls getting back together, Excited?

Vangelis; So excited! I actually met Mel B at the LGBT awards. I had a dress run where I had to sing in front of Mel and Duncan James from Blue. She came up to me and said ‘Hi I’m Mel’ and all I could think is ‘I am talking to a spice girl and going to be singing infront of her’ she was lovely though and they both clapped me afterwards.

Scott –  Is there a guy in your life? OR are you still looking for love?

Vangelis; There is someone in my life. Tony Fran AKA Fantasy. He does Drag and he’s a very arty person. I think he will do big things. Here is a link to a short film he made which I feature in.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haI5cSA54sc

Scott –  Top 3 things you can’t live without?

Vangelis; Cup of tea….Blow Jobs…..Singing

Haydn Blower Interview with Scott McGlynn

Haydn Blower who has a passion for singing, modelling and dancing, He’s well know for uploading his first freestyle dance video, this video had 37,000 views in just over a week, I caught up with Haydn to talk more about YouTube, Modelling, Fashion and more…

676171c6-e745-4ff8-84d4-f43c711ba788

Scott:  We know for YouTube channel, Your freestyle dance video got huge hits, What was you feeling from all the support?
Haydn: I think the feeling was shocked at first, so crazy that someone out there liked what I did and that’s a great feeling

Scott:  Your channel is full of mix videos, what’s been your favourite bar your dance video?

Haydn: Well I like the singing ones cause you can show passion when you sing and I think everyone enjoyed it and could connect.

Scott: You do a lot of modelling how did you get into it?

Haydn: Just posting random pictures on social media and got asked by a brand by the name of OnePiece if I would model some of their stuff in return for goods and opportunities

Scott: What’s been your best shoot so far?

Haydn: Along with the OnePiece one I did one for my website which was great fun cause I could do whatever

Scott: Any advice to people starting out in modelling you can give?

Haydn: Don’t stay in your comfort zone try new style of clothes and always bring your personality out in photos you take it puts you from the rest of everyone else

Scott: You a brand ambassador for “OnePiece” what can you tell me more about the brand?

Haydn: Well the company was founded in 2007 on a Sunday morning in Oslo Norway the idea came of tying together a hoodie with a pair sweatpants using a giant zipper ended up in what would become the OnePiece Jumpsuit, the very core product of the brand. Some said it would look stupid, some said it wouldn’t last, most people agreed it wouldn’t work out. But they became a global movement of slackers, counting 10 Concept Stores, over 1000 retailers selling in over 100 countries and over 1 million fans worldwide – and the slumber party has barely just started…

Scott: I recently brought out my first book called “OUT” its my autobiographical story of being gay in high school age 11 and getting bullied for who i am, What advice would you say to people getting bullied?
Haydn: I got bullied myself at a young age moving schools and even been having to be pulled out a one point as it was affecting my grades but I chose to go back to school cause I know that school was just a small part of my life and that I was going on to do better things then the people who put me down, so my advice would be stay cool headed and surrounding yourself with good friends at school or wherever and just think you in the end will come out on top
Scott: We love to see you come around the UK any plans for this?

Haydn: I will be doing a few tours of the UK with events coming up
Scott: What’s the 3 most things you can not live without?

Haydn:

My iPhone

My family/friends

And air 🙂
Scott:  What does 2016 / 2017 hold for Haydn?

Haydn: I hope to be even more involved in brands etc and maybe even a career in dancing or music.
